Flamenco, unlike Ballet and other forms of performed dance originated in the caves, villages and households of Andalucia Spain as a form of personal and cultural expression as well as storytelling of the Gypsies who lived there.
The majority of Flamenco dancing is still experienced this way, at household parties, community and cultural celebrations such as Feria de Abril in Seville Spain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeHaioZ0vbc, weddings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfBZoebhItU&list=RDkfBZoebhItU&start_radio=1 and other events where people love to sing and dance.
Dancing Flamenco at is roots doesn't require any special shoes nor clothing, just an excellent sense of rhythm, and the desire for self expression in both moments of joy and sadness and everything in between.
There are many different branches (styles) that grow from the tree of Flamenco. They are called "Palos," and are characterized by a combination of rhythmic structure, Major or Minor Key as well as speed and mood of movement and expression.
Any of them can be danced in a folkloric or performance mode depending on the dancer's desire.
It's perfectly fine to enjoy Flamenco at its roots in daily and community life in your street clothes without ever getting up on a stage!
If you're more interested in experiencing the culture, roots, musicality and self-expression of Flamenco without the pressure of advanced technique, special shoes and clothes, rehearsals and upcoming performances, this is the stream for you.
Folkloric Classes follow the following structure:
Warm Up and Musicality
Study of Steps and Movements
Review and Time to Dance!
However, if you're more fascinated by the costumes, shoes and stage performances, the performance stream will definitely be more for you.
You can switch streams at any time, but it will be a little harder to catch up to the Performance stream than the Folkloric if you choose to do so.
