No matter which class you take you'll need the following:
Comfortable clothing you can easily move in; and A PHONE to record a summary at the end of every class!
Athletic wear is preferable; like loose pants or yoga shorts and or leggings and a comfortable top. You may want to layer as you warm up and cool down.
You will learn how to manipulate and dance in a Flamenco skirt, so eventually a practice skirt of some kind will be required, but not initially necessarily.
Comfortable sports or walking shoes or very supportive shoes with a little bit of a thicker heel up to 2.5 inches high that also have a very supportive heel cup. No sling backs, stilettos or kitten heels.
***Salsa character shoes won't be suitable unless they have a very square or chunky heel. Heels that are too narrow will throw you off of balance and are unsafe to dance Flamenco in.
A bottle of water. Dancing makes you very thirsty!
If you prefer to dance Flamenco in your every day street clothes rather than a stage, there is no need to purchase a pair of Flamenco shoes nor a skirt, but you certainly can if you wish!
A skirt won't be necessary right away for the Sevillanas class, but for the Tangos class it will.
Amazon is a great place to purchase a very inexpensive Flamenco skirt that will do. Or you can purchase a basic skirt from from Flamenco West here: https://flamencowest.com
If you would like something more upscale, and quite affordable, I can highly recommend Lunares Flamenco: https://www.lunaresflamenco.com.br/en/14-bottoms
For shoes my best recommendation is the brand Senovilla which you can also get at Flamenco West here: https://flamencowest.com
You won't need a costume for classes, but you will need a practice Flamenco skirt and shoes.
My #1 recommendation for Flamenco shoes is the brand Senovilla from Flamenco West. Flamenco West has great customer service and a huge selection of shoes. They will also ship you a few pairs to try on to ensure you have chosen the perfect size.
You can find them here: https://flamencowest.com
Cheaper options can be found on Facebook Market Place and other sites. If in doubt, send me a link and I'll happily help you decide to ensure you have a good pair that will last you a while.
For practice skirts, depending on your budget, I can recommend from least to most expensive
Lunares Flamenco: https://www.lunaresflamenco.com.br/en/14-bottoms
or
Flamenco West: https://flamencowest.com
***Facebook Market Place is also a good option though finding something in your size will be more difficult.
School showcases will occur in mid-April each year at the time of Feria de Abril in Spain.
All performance stream students are expected to participate (though everyone is welcome!) and will need a costume by that time.
I'll be happy to loan out what I can and also help everyone locate the appropriate items according to their budget. There are a lot of possibilities, so don't let this be a stress, but rather a really fun fashion moment!
